Workshop Format

The following is an outline of the general format of the workshop.



Day 1

Introductions and Opening Session
The students and faculty mentors will meet each other at the opening dinner. Each faculty will mentor three students and work with them closely throughout the workshop.

Day 2
Session I
Day two is divided into twelve 30-minute segments. Each participant will present the work of another in five minutes followed by a discussion of that project. Faculty act as facilitators.

Day 3
Session II
Day three is also divided into twelve 30-minute segments. Each student will respond briefly to the discussion of the previous day, having reflected on others' comments, critiques and perspectives of her work. The student will then lead a discussion among participants and faculty of her project for the remainder of the 30-minute session.

Day 4
Session III
Participants discuss methodology and research design based on their individual projects and on the readings.

Session IV
In an open forum session, students and faculty discuss practical concerns such as dissertation writing and publishing, career planning, tenure, etc.
